The beginning of September

September 1st - time flies when one is busy.  Since the 18th I have helped with a dehydrating workshop (learned that London broil makes pretty good jerky), spent a full day with a group of master food preservers working on canning tuna.  In 10 hours we canned 182 1/2 pints of tuna.

I have finished canning tuna for me this year (unless something major happens).  Finished canning applesauce from apples I was given.  It tastes so good.  Have some blackberries I need to decide what I'm going to do with.

But for today I really need to get cracking on the house - the realtor comes tomorrow afternoon to take inside pictures.  My cousin, John and I finished painting the guest bath last night.  The master bath won't be available for pictures because I haven't progressed far enough on the painting to let that be shown on the net.  The office probably won't be photographed either.  The guest room has to be finished because Ruth could be here in the next couple of days for an extended visit.

My cousin Joy should hopefully be home later today.  It seems incredible that last Friday she was having brain surgery to remove a tumor and could be home today.  The doctors at River Bend are really amazing.

Back to cleaning - dehydrating and canning for today.

sorry I have missed a few days but I'll try to catch you up on some of the things going on.  Last week was a very long week for work and this week is looking like it may be the same - unfortunately that doesn't mean you make a lot of money it just means that some days are crammed with work and other days not so much.  Saturday I got to meet up with a friend and we picked crab apples.  Her husband met us at the tree and he picked and shook the tree so we could glean the apples.  The woman who owns the tree didn't want the apples but wanted to be sure the apples were put to good use.  Apple juice is in my future.  Then we went to my friend's house and she loaned me her steam juicer and gifted me rhubarb and some more apples.

Yesterday I went in search of a missing lamp post and a sidewalk.  Hopefully I can upload those pictures  -  in our area once you get hedges to grow they grow like crazy - this hedge was trimmed back last year I think.

Today was spent with some plums from two weeks ago - they are now plum sauce and with the exception of one jar that didn't seal (will reprocess that jar) that project is complete.  Rhubarb has been turned into sauce for cookies and some rhubarb sauce for the canner.  As soon as the rhubarb is in the canner I'll be moving on to the apples.

Update on the pictures - still can't load the pictures so I'll post them over on facebook so some can catch them there.

I'll try to post something every few days - but no guarantees.  Last night completed the next item on my canning to do list - a 3 berry jelly (marionberry, blackberry, and huckleberry).  Unfortunately, tonight, tomorrow and Thursday are heavy work days so probably won't make any more headway on the apples that are sitting in the back of my car.  The car actually smells wonderful right now but I'll have to get busy on them asap - oh and also the plums that are waiting for me.  In the meantime, I'm going to see if I can post a picture of the jelly for tonight.  I'm going to have to do a whole lot more experimenting to try to post pictures - so far it hasn't been interested in letting me include pictures -- so pictures are coming and will probably be a lot of  them all at once.
